Edit an E-commerce Template in FrontPage 2002
After you have downloaded the bCentral Commerce Manager Add-in for
Microsoft FrontPage®, created a product catalog in the bCentral Commerce
Manager, and created your e-commerce Web site in FrontPage using the
E-commerce Wizard, you are ready to customize your site to suit your
needs.
You can change the look of your e-commerce Web site the same way you
would any other FrontPage Web site. You can apply themes, add photos and
graphics, change fonts, and add colors to your Web pages. In addition, you
can change the way your product information is displayed by using the
commands in the E-commerce toolbar.
About catalog templates
The E-commerce Wizard generates two folders when it creates your e-commerce
Web site: the Catalog folder and the Catalog Template folder.
- The Catalog folder contains a folder for each department you choose to
list in your Microsoft FrontPage e-commerce Web site. Each department folder contains a
product list page and a product detail page for each product listed within the
department. These are the pages that users will see
when they browse to your site.
- The Catalog Templates folder contains the product list and
product detail template pages for each department. These templates store the
information that control the look of a page and the layout of the product
information that appears on a page.
Note All changes to your product pages must be made to the corresponding template
in the Catalog Templates
folder.
Changing the way product information is displayed in a template
You can use the E-commerce toolbar that was installed as part of the
bCentral Commerce Manager Add-in to make the following changes to your
FrontPage e-commerce templates.
Insert product fields
- On an open catalog template page, position the insertion point where you want to insert a
field.
- On the E-commerce toolbar, click the arrow to the right of the
Insert Field button.
- Click the field name
that you want to insert.
- Repeat steps 1 through 3 for each additional field you want to insert.
- Run the E-commerce Wizard to apply changes to pages in the corresponding Catalog
folder.
Insert shopping cart feature
buttons
- On an open catalog template page, position the insertion point where you want to insert a
shopping cart feature button.
- On the E-commerce toolbar, click the arrow to the right of the
Insert Field button.
- Click Buy Button.
- From the Buy Button Properties dialog box, select the button
type you want to add.
- Under Appearance, select either Text Button or Image
Button.
- Repeat steps 1 through 5 for each additional button you want to insert.
- Run the E-commerce Wizard to apply changes to pages in the corresponding Catalog
folder.
Insert a product-related link
You can insert links to a department or
product list anywhere on a catalog template page. You can insert a link
to a product detail page only within a product list table.
- On an open catalog template page, position the insertion point where you want to insert the link.
- On the E-commerce toolbar, click the arrow to the right of the
Insert Link To button.
- From the Insert Link To dropdown menu, click the link you want to insert.
- Repeat the steps 1 through 5 for each additional link you want to insert.
Notes
- You can edit the text on a link the same way you
would edit any other text in FrontPage. Any text you add between the
[Start Link] and [End Link] fields will become the text of the link.
- You can select a block of existing text, and then insert the link by
using the steps
above. The selected text will become the text for the link.
Run the E-commerce Wizard to apply changes to pages in the corresponding Catalog
folder.
Insert
a department or product list
You can insert department or product lists into your
catalog template pages and set them to display any way you'd like.

- On the E-commerce tool

button or the Product List button, depending on which list you'd like
to insert.
- From the List Style tab in the Department or Product
List Properties dialog box, select whether you want to display your
results as a table or list.
Note If you choose to display your
results as a list, you will have a few other options to select.
- Click the Sort Order tab to specify the order in which you would like your fields
to
be sorted when the
list is generated.
- Run the E-commerce Wizard to apply changes to pages in the corresponding Catalog
folder.

product. Once you have selected the file, the file location will appear next
to Browse.
- Click Submit, and then click Save.
- Return to FrontPage, and then run the E-commerce Wizard.
Notes
- If you are using the default product list and detail tables, your
product photo will be automatically displayed with your product after
completion of these steps.
- If you have modified the product list or detail tables, and have deleted
the Image field, you can reinsert a product photo by following the
steps in the Insert Product Field section above.
